Date: Sunday, October 21, 2018
Time: 12pm - 5pm
Join the Education Department for the second special artist workshop with artist collective, KUNIKLO and friends. As Viva la Vida’s Artists in Residency, KUNIKLO, Diego Mireles Duran, and Cheraya Esters will be featured during the Viva la Vida Festival and Parade. Mexic-Arte Museum’s activities during the workshop will highlight this year's festival theme of “Alebrijes”, fantastical creatures of Mexican folklore—most recently featured in Disney-Pixar’s movie Coco. KUNIKLO will guide visitors (of all ages) through the creation of decorative masks and alebrije caterpillars using recycled materials.
KUNIKLO is an artist collective working in music, theater, costume, painting, video, sculpture and dance. KUNIKLO Collective is comprised of Olivia Warner, Jose Luis Sanabria and Luis Gabriel Sanabria and Sebastian Turner. The collective's practice centers on themes of nature, culture, rituals, and investigations into literary and philosophical theory. KUNIKLO has exhibited at the MECA International Art Fair in Puerto Rico as well as locally at Museum of Human Achievement and will be creating an Alebrije inspired kinetic sculpture for the 2018 Viva La Vida Parade.
