SOCIAL MEDIA CHALLENGE
Mexic-Arte Museum is excited to announce the #ShowUsYourFrida social media challenge in conjunction with the Frida and Diego: A Smile in the Middle of the Wayexhibit.
The Museum invites you to imagine what Frida Kahlo would look like today if she were still alive. Tattoos? Piercings? Dyed hair? It’s up to you! Once you have an image in mind, create an image and show us your Frida. Read below for more details.
WHAT WILL MY ART BE USED FOR?
For our 2017 Community Altars: Love to Death exhibit, a special altar will be dedicated to Frida Kahlo, honoring her 110th birthday celebration*. Appropriate images that meets the Museum’s guidelines (see below) will be selected each week to be displayed on Kahlo’s altar in a revolving digital slideshow.
HOW DO I PARTICIPATE?
Anyone can participate! Simply upload your creation to Instagram by using the hashtag #ShowUsYourFrida in the caption. Each week, the Museum will repost our favorites to our “Frida Feed” (@ShowUsYourFrida) on Instagram. What about Facebook? No. only Instagram.
CAN ANYONE PARTICIPATE?
WHAT CAN I UPLOAD?
The choice is up to you! Traditional media like paintings, drawings, photos, and prints are accepted as well as selfies, gifs, and other graphics.
WILL PEOPLE'S NAME AND PLACE BE PUBLIC?
No; usernames only.
DO I NEED TO LIVE IN AUSTIN, TEXAS TO PARTICIPATE?
No. We encourage everyone around the world to participate!
WHAT DO I RECEIVE FOR PARTICIPATING?
Your submission will be reposted and/or displayed on the Frida and Diego: A Smile in the Middle of the Way exhibition, September 15 to November 26th.
HOW DO I KNOW IF MY ARTWORK HAS BEEN SELECTED?
Check the Museum’s Frida Feed (@ShowUsYourFrida) on Instagram as well as our website. Once accepted, your submission will be digitally displayed on the Frida altar.
CAN I UPLOAD MORE THAN ONE ARTWORK?
GUIDELINES FOR ARTWORK SUBMISSION:
Uploaded images must meet the following guidelines in order to be considered for selection. Please read the guidelines carefully:
- No nudity
- No profanity
- No explicit content
- Images must be uploaded by the original creator in order to be considered
- Please include your name, title of piece, and medium
